Community Police Project - Srijan Girls Empowerment

Srijan Girls Empowerment initiative, a groundbreaking project under the Bhopal Police Commissionerate's Community Police Program. This project addresses the educational challenges faced by underprivileged girls in slum areas, contributing to their empowerment and fostering positive community-police relations.

Background:

Underprivileged girls in slum areas often faced discontinuation of education due to cultural barriers or concerns about eve-teasing. Recognizing this, the Srijan initiative was launched to provide educational support, particularly for police job entrance exam preparation.

Key Features:

  1. Tuition by Police Personnel: New recruit police personnel actively participated by providing tuition to girls, emphasizing both entrance exam preparations and basic education.

  2. Empowering Underprivileged Girls: The project resulted in increased readmission of girls into schools, boosting their confidence and encouraging families to allow continued education.

  3. Community Engagement: The direct interaction between police personnel and the girls led to a significant reduction in eve-teasing cases in the targeted areas.

  4. Endorsement by Civil Society Groups: Srijan received widespread support and endorsement from various civil society groups and women actively involved in law enforcement within their slums.

  5. EdTech Support: We collaborated with these police personnel by providing them with EdTech support, enhancing the effectiveness of their teaching methods.

Impact:

The innovative Srijan project has not only contributed to the academic advancement of underprivileged girls but has also fostered a positive image of the police within the community. The drop in eve-teasing cases is a testament to the program's success in addressing broader social issues.

Future Initiatives:

Encouraged by the positive outcomes, we are actively exploring opportunities to expand the Srijan initiative to additional areas, ensuring a more widespread impact on girls' education and community-police relations.
